1. How are you able to offer the most affordable rent in all of Alberta?
Freedom Living is operated by Community Comfort which is a non-profit, charitable organization. We rely on volunteers and keep costs low by limiting advertising and relying on word of mouth advertising to maintain 100% occupancy. Our utility costs very low because our building is energy efficient with LED lighting throughout, efficient hydronic boiler heating system, water conserving shower and kitchen faucets. Our building is enrolled in the Energy Efficiency Alberta program.
2. Are there any age restrictions at Freedom Living?
No, we will not discriminate by age. In fact, we support a diverse community of tenants, who can socially mix and support each other as a community. Therefore we hope to attract individuals who are retired, or working in the community, or working part-time from home (who would like to enjoy working from our light and bright -Internet Hub Shared Work Space).
3. What is included in the monthly rent?
We include: natural gas, electricity, internet (Wi-Fi) and laundry in the already affordable rent. We also provide an exercise room with Bowflex Free TV lounge with Netflix and hundreds of DVD's, a bright living room, and complimentary self serve coffee, monthly Sunday potluck-style dinner, & free social events, as well as use of our gourmet kitchen. Your personal suite. utilities, and loads of extras. Internet Work Space, Social Cafe Nook, The Borrow-It Pantry (kitchen, household tools & garden items).
4. How and When do I pay my rent?
We only accept payment by pre-authorized monthly debit from a Canadian bank account. The rent payment is withdrawn from your bank account on the First (1st) day of each month.
5. Are pets allowed?
Yes, small dogs (under 20 lbs), cats, and birds are our companions & enhance quality of life! Small dogs, cats, and small pets are allowed in the suites, but must be on leash for entering & exiting suites.
6. Are you wheelchair accessible?
We are definitely barrier friendly. Our suites & common spaces have many features of barrier-free living, (no stairs, ease of access), although we may not to suit everyone's specific needs, come check us out and see if we are a good fit for you!
7. Do you provide Personal Care?
No. We provide an affordable, independent-living option for individuals and active adults who require a low-cost, affordable housing. We facilitate Companionship - a supportive tenant community, though quality (& free) social interactions for some meals & social events to bring tenant's together.
8. How much is Rent?
Affordable! The apartments have lower than market rents and loaded with many free amenities. Be assured you can live well on limited income at Freedom Living -Affordable Suites.
9. Is Wi-Fi internet really included? How fast is it?
Yes, we include WiFi internet with a strong signal throughout the building. The speed is suitable for web browsing, email and applications including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp and Skype. Our suites also offer a hard wired Ethernet (RJ45) plug in for internet access.
10. How do I know if there are any available units and/or join your waiting list?

11. I am ready to rent and want to move in, what is the process?
a. The first step is to fill out an application for pre-approval (see below). Our application obtains a credit and criminal record check. Once we receive your completed application we will let you know within 24 hours (usually sooner) if you are approved.
b. Once you are approved we will send you a copy of your lease agreement to review and digitally sign.
c. After you have reviewed and signed the lease agreement we require a copy of your banking information for pre-authorized payment. Your security deposit and rent will be withdrawn from your bank account once you have signed the lease and future rent payments will come out of your bank account on the First (1st) day of each month.
d. We will arrange for a walk-though inspection at noon on your move in day and provide you with keys to the building and your unit.
